My Story…

Hello! My name is Makayla Yazzie, I am a Native American (Navajo) from To’Hajiilee, New Mexico. I am 17 years old and currently a freshman at the University of New Mexico. I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing management at the UNM Anderson School of Management. I enjoy listening to music or watching movies while painting or beading with my cat Pedro. I also love reading books and going on evening walks. I started beading at the beginning of 2022. My favorite part of beading is seeing my friends, family, and new people I meet wear my earrings!

My cat Pedro is my best friend, I don’t know where I would be without him. I say he saved my life. Two years ago I was really struggling with my mental health. Until one day, we stopped in a parking lot where my family and I heard a kitten crying. Then we found Pedro in the engine of our car. We took him home and ever since then I slowly started to get better. He comforts me, he cheers me up every day, he makes sure I am not alone, and most importantly he makes me happy. As of now he is 3 years old and naughty as ever!
